About Us
Founded in Brisbane, Australia in 2024 by Ross Newman, Astute Systems emerged from The Precinct, an Advanced Queensland Initiative, to address the growing need for AI in defense. With our veteran leadership teams we have over 100 years of combined defense experience, our team recognized the importance of deploying world class hardware to our allies around the globe.
The 2023 Defence Strategic Review (DSR) emphasized AI and autonomy as key force multipliers, inspiring the creation of Astute Systems. We are committed to advancing defense technology and providing cutting-edge solutions to protect and empower our clients.
“AUKUS Pillar II Advanced Capabilities is prioritising the trilateral delivery of enhanced Defence capabilities. It will develop and deliver advanced capabilities in areas such as artificial intelligence”, DSR

Purpose
Astute Systems exists to enable Defence teams to transform complex platform technology into clearer decisions, stronger mission performance and more resilient, evidence-based operations to increase the effectiveness, safety, security, and survivability of the capabilities and those who serve.
Vision
To become a trusted Australian mission systems partner recognised globally for enabling Defence platforms to operate as cohesive, intelligent and resilient systems of systems across land, maritime, air and space.
Over the next decade, Astute Systems aims to enable Defence to move from legacy platform technologies to managed mission systems that give teams better situational awareness, faster decision making, stronger assurance and operational advantage in complex environments
Objective
Astute Systems designs, builds and supports rugged mission system technologies that enable Defence primes, platform integrators and programme teams to make integration risk visible, assessable and manageable, improve decision speed, strengthen mission effectiveness and sustain operational advantage in demanding environments.
Protection, safety and survivability matter, but they are outcomes of better mission systems. The primary goal is mission success, supported by resilient systems, trusted information, human decision support, faster decisions and technology that performs when it matters.
CEO Ross Newman: “Our purpose is clear we empower autonomy on the battlefield as a force multipler.”
Values
Mission first thinking
We start with the operational problems, not the products. Every design decision needs to support mission effectiveness, decision advantage, operational context and the personnel who rely on the systems in the field.
Proof over assumption
We do not rely on theory or ideas alone. We test, validate and verify every aspect, refining to the customers’ requirements and provide evidence of our systems performance so customers can have confidence in what is delivered and why it can be trusted.
Clarity in complexity
We work in complex technical environments, but we do not use complexity as an excuse for confusion. We aim to make relationships, dependencies, risks, decisions and communication clearer for our team, partners and customers.
Innovation
We innovate because the mission demands it, our evolving environments drive the need for it. Every product, feature and improvement seeks to serve a practical operational needs.
Collaborative impact
Mission systems do not work in isolation and neither do we. We work closely with Defence, primes, integrators, partners and our own team to solve system of systems problems that require trust, evidence, discipline and collaboration.
Real environment design
We design for harsh conditions, real users and demanding operational settings. Our work must stand up to the environment it is built for, from the engineering bench to the field. Importantly, we understand the operational context and its complexities.
Ownership of the outcome
We take responsibility for the quality, clarity and usefulness of what we deliver. We do not just build components or platforms. We enable customers to solve mission system problems through integration, assurance, deployment and support.
Agility in design
We are agile and nimble because we are not bound by legacy technology decisions, we seek to provide future proofed solutions by design and architecture. We can pivot rapidly, change, augment while maintaining discipline around evidence, assurance and operational need..
Mission
We are committed to developing and delivering best-in-class defence systems that embody trust, resilience, safety and quality. Our mission is to provide our clients with robust and dependable solutions that perform seamlessly in the most challenging environments, safeguarding those who serve and ensuring their operational success.
