Formerly known as VivoeX, ATLAS unifies ToolX, LDMX and Astute DDS into a single, full-stack solution for UK Generic Vehicle Architecture (GVA) systems.
Brisbane, Austalia — 18 May 2026 — Astute Systems today announced ATLAS, the rebrand and major evolution of its flagship GVA suite previously released as VivoeX. ATLAS brings together a modern Qt6/C++20 application stack, a world-class DDS communications core, and a new generation of model-driven engineering tools to deliver a complete, full-stack solution for the design, integration and operation of UK Defence Standard 23-009 (GVA) compliant land platforms.
ATLAS is purpose-built to solve the hardest problems facing today's armoured vehicle programmes: fragmented subsystem integration, vendor lock-in around proprietary middleware, slow and error-prone systems modelling, and the operational burden of fielding crew interfaces that must remain certifiable, deterministic and mission-effective across decades of service life.
Solving the Real Problems of GVA Integration
Modern fighting vehicles are no longer mechanical platforms with electronics bolted on — they are distributed real-time computing systems on tracks and wheels. Programme teams routinely struggle with:
- Subsystem fragmentation — sights, weapons, situational awareness, HUMS, alarms, power and comms each ship with their own data models, IDLs and integration assumptions.
- Middleware lock-in — closed, single-vendor data buses that cannot be independently verified, audited or extended by the platform integrator.
- Slow HMI iteration — crew station changes that take months to flow from requirement to deployed display.
- Operational fragility — alarm storms, registry drift, and inconsistent device discovery in the field.
ATLAS addresses each of these directly, as a single integrated stack rather than a collection of point tools.
Inside ATLAS

ToolX — The Engineer's Workbench
ToolX is the developer- and integrator-facing side of ATLAS: a modern, scriptable workbench for defining, generating and validating GVA Land Data Model (LDM) artefacts. It takes the pain out of working with IDL, PSM headers, Qt signal/slot pub-sub wrappers and CMake target wiring, and gives system engineers a fast, repeatable path from model to running code.
LDMX — Land Data Model EXplorer
LDMX is the live operator and integrator view into a running GVA platform. It discovers every DDS participant on the bus, shows every topic, every sample and every QoS contract in real time, and lets engineers introspect, replay and stress-test the data model with no custom tooling required. LDMX turns the LDM from a document into a live, observable system.
Astute DDS — A GVA-First Middleware Core
At the heart of ATLAS sits Astute DDS, our military-grade Data Distribution Service implementation. Unlike general-purpose DDS stacks retrofitted to defence use, Astute DDS is the first DDS solution engineered GVA-first: its QoS profiles, discovery model, security posture and topic conventions are aligned end-to-end with Def Stan 23-009 and the UK LDM versions (10.0.0, 9.1.0, 9.2.0, AS-LDM 7.2.5) out of the box. It is deterministic, hardened, and proven across the full GVA topic surface — from alarms and registry to HMI, sights, HUMS and effectors.
A Modern Code Base, World-Class Tooling
ATLAS is built on a modern C++20/Qt6 foundation with first-class CMake, CI, packaging (deb/rpm/AppImage) and observability. Every component is built with clickable diagnostics, structured logging, and a clean separation between generated and hand-written code — so platform integrators get the velocity of a modern web stack with the assurance of a defence-grade product.
Full Stack — From Wire to Warfighter
ATLAS is unique in covering the entire GVA stack under one roof:
| Layer | ATLAS Component |
|---|---|
| Crew Station / HMI | GVA HMI, GVA Display Extensions, GVA Widgets library |
| Mission Applications | BMS, VoIP, Alarms, UACM, HUMS, Ollama-powered assistants |
| Services | Registry, Tile Server, ONVIF, J1939 Gateway, Web Dashboard |
| Data Model | LDM 10.0.0 / 9.x / AS-LDM, NGVA and SAPIENT bindings |
| Middleware | Astute DDS (GVA-first), CycloneDDS / RTI compatible |
| Tooling | ToolX (video), LDMX (exploration), Astute DDS Inspect |
Programme teams no longer need to assemble a GVA capability from a dozen vendors. ATLAS is the stack.
Bohemia Interactive Simulations — Rethinking System Modelling with AI
Alongside the ATLAS launch, Astute Systems is announcing a strategic collaboration with Bohemia Interactive Simulations (BISim) to transform how defence primes approach system modelling and synthetic environments.
Traditional Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) is powerful but slow: SysML diagrams, requirements traceability and simulation harnesses are typically authored by hand, and rarely stay synchronised with the running platform. Together with BISim, Astute Systems is changing this in three ways:
- AI-assisted model authoring — large-language-model copilots inside ToolX that draft IDL, QoS profiles, topic contracts and HMI bindings from natural-language intent, then validate them against the LDM.
- Live synthetic integration — ATLAS platforms running against BISim's high-fidelity virtual environments, with the same DDS topics flowing in simulation as on the real vehicle.
- Closed-loop verification — AI agents that drive scenarios in BISim, observe behaviour through LDMX, and surface model gaps, alarm regressions and HMI defects before they reach the hull.
The result is a system modelling workflow that is faster, more honest, and continuously executable — bridging the historical gap between the SysML model, the simulator and the fielded platform.
Availability
ATLAS is available now to UK MoD programmes, primes and qualified international partners. ToolX, LDMX and Astute DDS ship as part of the suite, with packaged installers for Ubuntu 24.04 / 26.04, AlmaLinux 9/10 and Rocky Linux, plus AppImage distributions for rapid evaluation.
